Indonesia will be allowed to interrogate an alleged Asian terrorist chief being held at the US prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, senior officers were quoted as saying Saturday.
US officials had previously refused Indonesian investigators access to Hambali, also known as Riduan Ismaddin, because they said doing so could compromise their own investigation of his activities.
Police chief Gen. Sutanto said FBI Director Robert S. Mueller told him Indonesian investigators would be allowed access to Hambali, but did not say when, the Koran Tempo daily reported.
"We need to question him to get more information on the (al-Qaida) network in Indonesia," Sutanto was quoted as saying.
