Iraq: Senior government official wounded in attack on his convoy

A senior official with Iraq's Ministry of Science and Technology was injured Wednesday morning when two roadside bombs apparently targeting him detonated as he was driving through eastern Baghdad, police and ministry officials said. Deputy Minister Samir al-Attar was traveling in two-car convoy in Baghdad's Zayona neighborhood when the bombs exploded at 7:30 a.m., said the police and ministry officials, each of whom spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information. Two of al-Attar's guards and three civilian bystanders were injured, the officials said. According to police, the first bomb missed the cars, but the second one - which detonated a minute later - hit the convoy.
