Israeli man stabbed to death in La Paz

Man, 25, from Petah Tikva apparently killed during robbery in Bolivian capital; body en route to Israel.

Backpacker Amit Arusi, from Petah Tikva, was knifed to death on Monday in what his girlfriend says was an unprovoked attack by a crazed man.
Arusi, in his early 20s, was travelling with his girlfriend, Cecilia, a Peruvian medical student.
She told Israeli media outlets that the couple had exited a cab after arriving at their hotel in La Paz, when they were suddenly set upon by a knife-wielding man for no reason.
Arusi leaped to Cecilia's defense after she was knocked to the groundby the attacker, and was stabbed twice, she said. He suffered majorblood loss, and died despite being rushed to hospital and being given atransfusion. His family is arranging for his body to be flown back toIsrael for burial.
Arusi served as a drone operator in the air force. He had planned toreturn to Israel in March to study media and business management, hisfamily said. While travelling in South America he had taken severaldiving trips and opened a bar frequented by Israeli travelers.
