Italian police used tear gas against anti-Bush demonstrators throwing bottles, Saturday evening. Tens of thousands of anti-globalization and far-left activists marched through the capital's ancient center beating rhythms on drums and brass instruments Saturday to protest against US President George W. Bush during his visit to Rome and the Vatican. Thousands of police were deployed round the Colosseum, the downtown Piazza Venezia and other venues amid fears that the protest could turn violent. Local media said 10,000 officers were deployed.
