Italian priest abducted in southern Philippines

Gunmen abducted an Italian Roman Catholic priest in the southern Philippines on Sunday who was on his way to a remote village to celebrate Mass, police said. Gian Carlo Bossi was riding his motorcycle in Zamboanga Sibugay province's Payao township, about 800 kilometers (500 miles) south of Manila, when about 10 armed men blocked his path and kidnapped him, said Senior Superintendent Francisco Cristobal, the provincial police chief. "He was kidnapped this morning. He came from the town proper of Payao, and he was on board his motorcycle on his way to another village to conduct Mass when an armed group blocked his path," Cristobal told The Associated Press.
