Japan approves more support for US Afghan campaign

Japan's Cabinet approved on Friday a six-month extension of its non-combat support for the US-led campaign in Afghanistan against remnants of the Taliban and al-Qaida, the top government spokesman said.
Japan has sent vessels to the Indian Ocean to transport fuel and supplies to US craft during the invasion to oust the Taliban in November 2001.
The extension goes into effect on May 1 and continues through the end of October, Chief Cabinet Spokesman Shinzo Abe told reporters Friday.
