Kidnapped Japanese tourist freed in Iran after 8 months

A Japanese student who was kidnapped while traveling in southeastern Iran last year has been released, Japan's Foreign Ministry said Sunday. The Foreign Ministry said it was notified by the Iranian government that Satoshi Nakamura, 23, was released in Iran late Saturday local time, eight months after he was taken hostage. Nakamura was traveling alone in Iran's lawless southeastern border with Pakistan and Afghanistan last October when he was seized by suspected bandits. Nakamura sounded in good spirit when Japanese embassy officials in the Iranian capital of Teheran telephoned the student, the ministry said in a statement.
