Man dies from bird flu in Indonesia

An Indonesian man died of bird flu after coming into contact with infected chickens near his home, bringing the toll in the country hardest-hit by the virus to 74, a health ministry official said Saturday. The 29-year-old man, was hospitalized for nearly a week in Central Java province before dying on Thursday, said Muhammad Nadirin, the head of the ministry's bird flu surveillance department. Local laboratory tests confirmed early Saturday that he had contracted the H5N1 virus.
