Mexican officials rescue Siberian tiger from unsafe cage

Mexican authorities said Friday they seized a female tiger from a residence in the capital because her cage was not secure. Animal rescuers sedated the six-year-old Siberian tiger and transported her to a zoo in Mexico state, according to Mexico City police and federal environmental regulators. Authorities found the big cat on the house's patio in a roofless cage that was just 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) tall. There was also too much space between the bars, making it possible for the tiger to claw anyone who came close. Otherwise, the tiger apparently was treated well.
