Three stranded Israeli backpackers arrived on Wednesday at the next station on their trek along the Santa Cruz Track, after their delay caused consternation among their family and friends. The three were reportedly suffering from frostbite, but were otherwise unharmed.
Earlier Wednesday, Peruvian rescue forces embarked on a mission to locate the three, who had become stranded overnight Tuesday during a hike near the country's capital.
The women accidentally became separated from their group and lost their way while hiking at the Santa Cruz Track, a mountainous area in Huaraz, 450 kilometers north of Lima.
The stranded backpackers sent out a distress signal to their insurance company using a satellite phone, National Insurance members said.
In March, a 20-year-old Israeli woman was killed in a rafting accident in Peru.
