North Korea accused the United States of defending a massacre by Israel in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, and called for an immediate halt to escalating violence in the Middle East.
"The US is supporting Israel's brutal massacre in Lebanon and Palestine, describing it as a self-defensive measure," a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman said in comments carried by the official Korean Central News Agency late Tuesday.
"This shows how hypocritical, dangerous and reckless the Bush administration is, although it pretends to be the apostle to peace and the protector of human rights," the unnamed spokesman said.
"The US and Israel should immediately halt their reckless military aggression that leads to a new war, in line with demands by the Arab states and the international community," he said.
