NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and his wife will visit with President George W. Bush at his Texas ranch May 20-21, the White House announced Thursday.
The 1,600 acre (647 hectares) property is a place where aides say the president feels most comfortable and can spend more get-to-know-you time with his guests than in hurried Washington.
The White House said Bush and De Hoop Scheffer will discuss a wide range of issues on NATO's agenda including operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo and enlargement of the 27-nation alliance.
"The president looks forward to discussing with the secretary-general NATO's crucial role in advancing peace and security," the statement said. "De Hoop Scheffer's leadership and vision have been crucial to strengthening the trans-Atlantic alliance."
