A group of former rebels in Nepal pelted a UN vehicle carrying the US ambassador with stones, officials said.
The communist activists threw rocks at the vehicle transporting Ambassador James F. Moriarty at Jhapa, about 500 kilometers southeast of the capital Katmandu, where he was visiting Bhutanese refugee camps on Friday.
US Embassy spokeswoman Sarah Hudson-Dean said Friday the ambassador was not hurt, and there was some damage to the vehicle.
She said the stone-throwers were identified as activists of the Young Communist League, the youth wing of the former Maoist rebels.
