Pakistan: Gunmen kill 2 in attack on Sunni funeral

Gunmen opened fire at a funeral for a Sunni Muslim in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, killing two people and injuring 12 others, police and a hospital doctor said. The Sunni ceremony was attacked about 20 minutes after more than 500 people arrived to attend the funeral for a Shi'ite university professor, who had been shot dead a day earlier in the city of Dera Ismail Khan, in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier province, said Mohammed Iqbal. No one claimed responsibility for the shooting at the Sunni funeral but Iqbal said it may have been in retaliation for the killing of Nizakat Ali, a professor at Dera Ismail Khan's Gomal University. Ali was shot dead by assailants on a motorcycle in a drive-by attack in the city on Saturday.
