Pakistan: Suicide bombing kills 4 troops

A suicide car bomb attack on a military convoy that killed four Pakistani troops has stoked fears of renewed fighting in Pakistan's volatile tribal regions near the Afghan border. The situation at the border is tense, with Pakistan under growing international pressure to prevent militants launching cross-border attacks from North Waziristan and other border regions against coalition and Afghan forces inside Afghanistan. Pakistani army and intelligence officials said the suicide attacker had parked his bomb-laden car near the Kajori checkpoint on the outskirts of Miran Shah, the main town in North Waziristan, and detonated it when a patrol convoy passed by. The blast killed four troops, wounded at least nine others, two seriously, and damaged three pickup trucks they were riding in, the officials said. A woman, who was driving past in a civilian car, and the attacker were also killed in the blast.
