Pakistan troops destroy insurgent hideout

Pakistani troops backed by helicopter gunships and artillery destroyed an insurgent hideout in a troubled tribal region near the Afghan border on Tuesday, but it was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties, an army spokesman said. Maj.-Gen. Waheed Arshad said the security forces targeted the compound in Daygan, a village about 15 kilometers (10 miles) west of Miran Shah - the main town in North Waziristan - after receiving "credible intelligence that miscreants were present there." However, he said he had no information about how many gunmen were killed in the assault.
