Philippine troops recover 4 beheaded marines

Philippine troops recovered the beheaded bodies of four marines from a clash with Muslim insurgents on a southern island, bringing the death toll to eight soldiers with six more missing, a marine spokesman said Wednesday. Nine others were wounded in one of the bloodiest fighting this year, which erupted late Tuesday as about 50 marines were searching for a kidnapped Italian priest in Tipo Tipo town on Basilan island, said Lt. Col. Ariel Caculitan. "The four were recovered and they were found to be beheaded," he said. "We're still looking for the other six, but hopefully some of them may be alive. We will see as to the outcome of the search."
