Police in Italy and United States seek to arrest dozens in Mafia raids

Authorities in Italy and the United States conducted raids Thursday targeting dozens of alleged members of Mafia clans who controlled drug trafficking between the two sides of the Atlantic, officials said. Police in the Sicilian capital of Palermo said they hoped to bring in 25 to 30 suspects, while more were being netted in raids conducted by the FBI in the United States. The operation, code-named "Old Bridge," was centered around Palermo and New York, targeting Mafia figures who were strengthening contacts between mob groups in Italy and the United States.
