Poll: Americans suspect Iran wants nuclear arms

Most Americans have heard of Iran's nuclear program, and more than seven in 10 of those who have think the Islamic republic's goal is a nuclear weapon, not electricity, a poll released Tuesday said. The poll, by the Pew Research Center for People & the Press, also found that more than half fear the United States will wait too long before dealing with Iran rather than act too quickly. There is, however, broad opposition to military action such as airstrikes as a remedy for the impasse with Iran over its nuclear ambitions. The poll found that almost two-thirds, or 64 percent, favor instead tough economic sanctions by the United Nations or a grouping of major countries.
