The quartet of Mideast peacemakers said Wednesday that the new Fatah-Hamas coalition government will be judged by its actions as well as its composition.
The quartet - the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia - also expressed hope that the Palestinian government established last week would "help end intra-Palestinian violence and ensure calm."
The quartet was formed to oversee the Israeli-Palestinian peace process after President George W. Bush laid out a plan for the two sides to make peace and establish a Palestinian state to live at peace with Israel.
