Report: Indian satellite launch unsuccessful

An Indian rocket veered off course after takeoff Monday, scuttling the launch of an Indian satellite that was to be used for broadcasting television signals and transmitting data, media reported. The NDTV news television station said authorities had alerted emergency crews around the launch site in southeastern India, presumably in case the debris crashed back to earth. The nearly 2,200-kilogram (4,800-pound) satellite, named INSAT-4C, was to be India's 12th satellite in orbit.
