Report: Iran hangs 29 convicts

State television website says 29 people convicted of murder, drug trafficking and other crimes have been hanged in Teheran's Evin prison. The website says the convicts included those found guilty of murder, rape, armed robbery and drug trafficking. The hangings were carried out after the death verdicts were approved by the country's Supreme Court. Murder, rape, armed robbery, kidnapping and drug trafficking are all punishable with the death penalty under Iran's strict Islamic regime. The hangings brought to over 100 the number of people executed in Iran so far this year.
