Two Pakistani journalists detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan returned to their home country unharmed on Tuesday, an official said.
Syed Saleem Shahzad, from The Star newspaper in the southern city of Karachi, and Qamar Yousafzai, a reporter with various newspapers in the southwestern city Quetta, crossed into southwestern Pakistan at the border town of Chaman, said Mohammed Tahir, an officer with Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency.
Both reporters disappeared in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province around Nov. 19.
They were released Sunday after being held for entering Taliban controlled territory without permission, and spent the following two nights in the country before returning to Pakistan.
Shahzad's wife said Saturday her husband had called her by satellite telephone saying the Taliban were accusing him and Yousafzai of spying and would try them in a Taliban court.
Saleem is known for writing on the war on terror, Iraq, al-Qaida and Afghanistan, The Star reported. Yousafzai worked for several media outlets, including as a reporter and collecting advertisements for the Urdu-language Baakhabar daily in Quetta, said that newspaper's editor, Shah Ghasi.
