S. Korean ship sinking off Oman, 12 crew missing

A South Korean cargo ship was sinking Thursday in waters off Oman, leaving a dozen crew members missing, Seoul's Foreign Ministry said. The accident happened around 2300 GMT Wednesday in waters about 150 kilometers (90 miles) east of Oman when the 26,000-ton ship was sailing to Iran from China carrying iron frames, a ministry official said on condition of anonymity, citing protocol. Twenty-three crew members were aboard the ship, including eight South Koreans, 13 Filipinos and two Chileans. Eleven of them have been rescued, but the others were missing, the official said. "The ship is in the middle of being submerged," he said. "Rescue workers are searching for the missing."
