A sharp magnitude 6.2 earthquake has rocked the sea floor near the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injury. No tsunami warning has been issued.
The quake struck 464 kilometers northwest of the country's second city Luganville on the island of Espiritu Santo at 4:26 p.m. (0526 GMT) on Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey, at a depth of 92 kilometers.
The USGS says its report of the 6.2 tremblor "supersedes" an initial report that put the earthquake's strength at magnitude 5.9.
