A pilot had to maneuver between traffic but was able to safely land his small plane on an interstate highway after experiencing mechanical problems, authorities said. The 1976 twin-engine Piper plane lost power around 3:30 p.m. Friday and landed on Interstate 75 in southern Hillsborough County, near Tampa, Florida, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Larry Coggins. Only the pilot and co-pilot were aboard. "He just found a safe area in between traffic," Coggins said. The pilot taxied to the median. No injuries were reported. Aviation officials are investigating.
