Spain's Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos on Wednesday summoned Iran's ambassador to protest comments by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who described Israel as a "disgraceful blot" that should be "wiped off the map." In a statement, Moratinos said he rejected the remarks in the strongest possible terms and had called for an urgent meeting with Iran's ambassador in Madrid. The Iranian president made the comments while speaking to students Wednesday during a Tehran conference called "The World without Zionism." Calling Israel a "fabricated" entity, the comments recalled the language used by the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who repeatedly called for the destruction of Israel.
