Spanish officer dead after shootout with Basque separatists in France

A Spanish civil guard was shot and killed and another was seriously injured Saturday during an operation targeting suspected members of Basque separatist group ETA in southwest France, police said.
The shooting occurred in Cap-Breton, a resort town on the Atlantic coast, a police official said. No other details were immediately available. Spanish and French police chasing Basque separatists often conduct operations on each other's territory.
