Stolen Munch artwork is recovered in Sweden

An artwork by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch that was stolen in Sweden last year has been recovered and returned to its owner, an insurance company said Wednesday. The wood engraving "Mot Skogen 2," or "Toward the Forest 2," was stolen in May, 2006, from a manor near Horby, 580 kilometers (360 miles) south of Stockholm. "The (engraving) is back and has been returned to its owner," said Bjorn Jacobsson, a spokesman for insurance company Lansforsakringar. However, he would not reveal any information about when or how the artwork was recovered. Police spokesman Per Goransson told newspaper Kvallsposten that the artwork was recovered by the insurance company, without help from police.
