A 5.9 magnitude earthquake shook Izmir just past midnight early Friday, sending residents running into the streets and bringing down houses in the fourth strong earthquake in the Aegean port city this week, CNN-Turk reported.
The quake was centered in Seferihisar, Turkey, but was felt as far away as in parts of Istanbul and on the Greek islands of Chios and Mytilini near the Turkish coast.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in Greece.
Residents were being told not to return to their houses in Izmir, CNN-Turk said, and some could be seen on the news channel settling down for a night spent in the streets.
A series of quakes shook Izmir earlier this week, with magnitudes of 5.9, 5.7 and 5.6.
CNN-Turk reported injuries in the Friday quake, but the reports could not be immediately confirmed.
