Sudan investigates deadly plane crash; toll remains unclear

Sudanese investigators on Wednesday were trying to determine what caused a jetliner that had just landed in a thunderstorm to skid off a runway and burst into flames in Sudan's capital. At least 30 people were killed in the accident, Sudan Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Abdel Hafez Abdel Rahim Mahmoud told The Associated Press. Around 170 managed to escape and about 14 others remain unaccounted for, Mahmoud said. Officials have said some survivors likely left the airport without reporting to authorities or going through customs amid the confusion.
