The Turkish mass circulation newspaper Hurriyet has won the right to a Web site address with its name, the UN intellectual property agency said Tuesday.
The paper was handed ownership of the www.hurriyet.com Web address after appealing to a United Nations panel in a dispute with the unnamed holder of the domain name, based in Berlin, Germany.
The present owner had registered and used the domain in bad faith, a World Intellectual Property Organization arbitration panel ruled.
The panel, which was set up in 1999, allows those who think they have the right to a domain to gain control of it without having to fight a costly legal battle or pay large sums of money.
