The UN's relief agency said Monday that construction has come to a halt on all its building projects in Gaza because building supplies are lacking, and called for a reopening of crossings into the coastal strip.
"Some $93 million worth of projects are on hold because cement and other building supplies have run out," John Ging, the director of the UN Relief and Works Agency in Gaza," said in a statement. '"This is all vital humanitarian work, including repair of dilapidated and damaged shelters of about 16,000 refugees currently living in appalling conditions."
Ging urged that all crossings into Gaza to be reopened. Passages were shut tight after Hamas seized control of Gaza a month ago.
