UNSC set to approve new sanctions on Iran

The UN Security Council was poised Saturday to unanimously approve a new package of modest sanctions against Iran, including a ban against Iranian arms exports and financial restrictions against an expanded list of officials and companies - that world powers hope will still send a strong message that Teheran will only further isolate itself by refusing to suspend uranium enrichment. Iran has vowed the sanctions will only motivate it further to pursue nuclear power, a message Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was expected to deliver in an address to the Security Council before the vote.
