US coalition reports soldier killed in Afghanistan

The US-led coalition in Afghanistan says one of its service members has been killed and five more wounded in an engagement in western Afghanistan. The coalition said the troops were on a reconnaissance patrol in the Gulistan District of Farah province on Thursday. Two Afghan army soldiers also were wounded. No other details were released. Insurgency-reated violence has killed more than 2,000 people in Afghanistan this year, according to an AP tally. Most were militants, though the total also includes 115 foreign soldiers. NATO said Friday it had killed several militants in Afghanistan's remote northeast.
