The United States on Thursday condemned the appointment of Popular Resistance Committees head Jamal Abu Samhadana as director-general of the Palestinian Authority Interior Ministry.
US State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said that Samhadana's nomination to such a senior position exposed Hamas' true face and its modes of operation.
Earlier in the day, Palestinian Interior Minister Said Siyam announced the formation of a new security apparatus that would include members of all Palestinian factions, although Islamic Jihad said they would not participate in the apparatus, saying their only role was to fight the Israeli occupation, Israel Radio reported.
