US envoy: N. Korea nuclear test a provocative act

A leading US envoy on Monday said a North Korean nuclear test would be a provocative act drawing international condemnation. Speaking in Shanghai at the end of a visit to North Korea's chief ally, China, US Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill urged Pyongyang to return to six-nation talks on resolving tensions over its nuclear program. "With regards to a nuclear test, obviously this would be a very provocative act," Hill told reporters. "The international community will not in any way support these provocative actions," Hill said. Hills comments come amid growing fears that Pyongyang's hard-line communist regime might soon test a nuclear bomb. Hill was to fly to Seoul later Monday for talks with South Korean officials.
