The US federal government heightened its monitoring of foreigners residing in the country since the special accessory laws for fighting terror were enacted four years ago, The Washington Post reported Sunday.
Even foreigners who were not suspected of terrorist activity were being followed, Israel Radio reported.
The accessory laws permit US security forces to monitor phone calls, written communications, and financial information of citizens.
Sen. Ted Kennedy (Dem.) complained that the findings were very disturbing. He stated that invasion of people's privacy is a very severe act, and should be performed only when there is clear information implicating suspicion.
