NATO's gradual expansion across Afghanistan, assuming responsibility for security from a US-led coalition, has so far been seamless, a US general said Saturday as the alliance geared up to move into new volatile regions.
Under plans to be considered by the 26 NATO member countries in November, the alliance's mission could almost double in size over the next year to up to 17,000 troops as it moved into southern and eastern regions wracked by rebel violence.
