US: Navy missile hit satellite's fuel tank and destroyed toxic chemicals

The US Defense Department has concluded from studying satellite debris that last week's shootdown was successful in hitting the spacecraft's fuel tank and destroying the hazardous chemicals.
Pentagon officials had said initially that they believed the Navy missile launched from a ship in the Pacific had hit the fuel tank as planned, but on Monday the Pentagon said there is now no doubt of that.
The conclusion was reached after further study of the debris created by the missile strike, including the lack of any sign that pieces of the satellite or any fuel reached populated areas on Earth.
