US: Overall death toll in Iraq up to 3,501

A roadside bomb killed one US soldier, the military said Thursday, pushing the overall death toll for American forces in Iraq to at least 3,501. The Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldier was killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded during combat operations in a southwestern section of the capital, a statement said, adding that two other soldiers were wounded in the attack and evacuated to a coalition medical facility. The soldiers' names were withheld pending notification of relatives. At least 3,501 members of the US military have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
