US serviceman dies of wounds from Afghan shooting

A US servicemember who had been wounded during a shooting rampage by an Afghan soldier died of his wounds, officials said Tuesday. The Afghan soldier opened fire inside a military base in the western city of Herat on Monday, killing three Afghan troops and a civilian, and wounding 12 others, including the US soldier, said Lt. Col. David Johnson, a US spokesman. Afghan officials said the American - an adviser training the Afghan military - had been the target of the rampage. Johnson originally said the soldier was in stable condition, but the coalition statement said he succumbed to his injuries Monday night.
