US to invite Olmert for Washington visit

The United States government is planning to invite Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for a visit to Washington ahead of the March elections in Israel. Olmert intends to arrive in Washington in February, where he was slated to discuss the upcoming elections in the Palestinian Authority, among other issues, according to Israel Radio. The invitation indicates the US government's support for Olmert and the Kadima ticket in Israel's upcoming elections. Wednesday night Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice issued a statement commending Olmert on the decision to permit east Jerusalem Arabs to participate in the PA elections.
