Video in German threatens Afghan coalition troops

A new Islamic extremist video with a German speaker threatening attacks on coalition forces in Afghanistan represents a "new quality of threat" against Germany, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday. The video was posted to a Turkish jihadist Internet site on Monday, according to the US-based SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors militant Web sites. The 26-minute video, attributed to the al-Qaida-linked Islamic Jihad Union, urges Muslims to support Palestinians in Gaza and features six masked men speaking in German, Russian, Turkish, Urdu and Uzbek. It is "yet another in a wide range of videos released in recent weeks threatening retaliation for Israel's actions in Gaza and placing the responsibility equally or more on the US, Europe, Germany and Britain than Israel," said Ben Venzke of the IntelCenter, another US-based group monitoring militant Web sites.
