Villepin: Ahmadinejad's remarks a 'disgrace'

France's premier held out hope Monday for a resolution to tensions between Iran and the West over Tehran's nuclear program. Dominique de Villepin also reiterated France's condemnation of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his "disgraceful" remarks on Israel and the Holocaust. The ultraconservative Iranian leader drew scorn across Europe last fall for saying that Israel should be "wiped off the map," and that the Holocaust was a "myth." "The remarks by Mr. Ahmadinejad are disgraceful," Villepin told CRIF, an umbrella association of French Jewish groups. "We cannot let dialogue between states be distracted by unacceptable provocations that hurt Israel, the Jewish people and the honor of the world community."
