"Members of OPEC [Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries] would like to stop using US Dollars," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted by Army Radio as saying Sunday evening.
At the end of OPEC members in Saudi Arabia, however, decided not to raise the price of oil, a decision which highly disappointed Ahmadinejad and his Venezuelan ally, President Hugo Chavez, Israel Radio reported.
Member countries promised Iran and Venezuela to consider the proposal to avoid using US Dollars during the next conference, scheduled for mid December.
Iran's proposal would, if implemented, cause the Dollar to drop sharply in value.
