EU foreign ministers on Monday are to discuss efforts to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions and meet with their Russian counterpart to review relations with Moscow that are increasingly troubled by trade, energy and political disputes.
The European Union ministers will hold talks two days before top negotiators from Iran and the UN Security Council, plus Germany, meet for the first time since February.
The EU's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, is also to meet with top Iranian negotiator Ali Larijani on Wednesday, although no venue or details for that meeting have been made public. Solana negotiates on behalf of permanent UN Security Council members France, Britain, Russia, the United States and China, as well as Germany.
The international community wants Tehran to freeze nuclear enrichment work before any talks can be held on a package of economic and other incentives for Iran, including assistance for its nuclear power generation program.
