Freed sailors meet Ahmadinejad on release

Iranian state television showed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad talking to the freed British sailors Wednesday after his announcement at a press conference that all 15 personnel would be immediately released. Each of the sailors shook hands with the Iranian president and exchanged words. One of the sailors was reported to have said he "thanked" the president and the Iranian people for the pardon. An Iranian diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the case, said the sailors would be handed over to British diplomats in Iran and that it would then be up to the Foreign Office to decide how they would return home.
