Germany urges Iran on British sailors' release

Germany, which holds the European Union presidency, summoned Iran's ambassador to urge the release of 15 captured British sailors and marines, the foreign ministry said Tuesday. The Foreign Ministry in Berlin stressed that Iran is responsible for the Britons' well-being and has an obligation to grant immediate consular access. Britain and Iran have disagreed about where the military personnel were seized Friday, with Britain insisting they were in Iraqi waters after searching a civilian cargo vessel and Tehran saying it had proof they were in Iranian territory.
