Khatami: Iran's nuclear program is peaceful

Iran is only interested in nuclear technology for peaceful civilian energy purposes, and the cause of the strife with the West over Teheran's nuclear ambitions is a result of the West's double standards on this issue, as other states in the Middle East already have nuclear programs, former Iranian President Mohammed Khatami told delegates at a conference in Kazakhstan Thursday. Refusing to speak directly to Israeli journalists, Khatami told former US Ambassador to the UN Richard Holbrook that he was ready to travel to America to discuss the issue, once a new administration was voted into power.
